There are many who thought that the Manxman was finished. Badly battered by the years of lay up at Sunderland with her shortened masts and her broken bow which had a notch cut out of it at Hull so that she could fit in the Ruscador Dry Dock.

In October 2001, Shipinfo Group joined forces with Ships of Magazine to create the forerunner to this website to gauge interest in saving the ship. The site was an immediate success.

In May 2002, the Manxman Steamship company was born following a meeting of 5 people determined to save the Manxman.

With help from amongst others the heritage lottery fund, Manxman was moved into the Pallion undercover dry dock on 25th September 2003 for survey and remedial works to make the ship fit for sea. She remained there until late 2004 when the dry dock was required for other ships.

The work of the Manxman Steamship Company continues.........
